yes, everything is getting expensive n interest is getting lower but nobody can do anything bout it....had to live with it n hope for a better tomorrow.
well, if i had bought in some few pieces of gold beginning of tis year, i'd be happy even if i don't make billions. ...... at least can earn some to cover a few months of my water n electricity bills.... |

my friend say very difficult to make big money directly from gold wor.. too unpredictable..
he was buying one gold stock then sold a couple of months later, sold at 15% profit (when he sold about 2 weeks back). But if he sold a few days later, he would have nearly doubled his investment. Curse and swear _________________ Sleeping body... |

friend told me he accidentally shortsold, his sale was in the wrong currency and so the sell was "rejected". Once the mess is cleared up, his holdings in GLD ETF will be put on the mkt 2 weeks later, and sold at mkt price. Doesn't matter too much, at least gold has more potential upside than downside now. think it went up USD$10 overnight per ozt _________________ Sleeping body... |

Taikor,
1. What's your view on gold now? Can buy or wait for it to drop a bit more?
2. Between UOB gold coins and Public Bank paper gold, strictly on value terms for a complete buy-sell cycle, is difference significant?
3. Is it true that all paper gold are derivatives of some larger underlying instrument and therefore invariably carries some form of "Lehman" risk?
4. If buying gold coins, besides the looks, is there any difference in value?
http://www1.uob.com.my/webpages/b_treasury_gold.htm
http://www1.uob.com.my/jsp/finance/fin_gold.jsp?func=gold#top
5. Does UOB offer a deposit box to go with the coins upon purchase?
Sorry for the string of questions, but hope to get some assistance from you. |

boss,
1. I think can buy. Any time is a good time to buy. Gold/silver run up tends to be in Q4 and peaking in Q1 before pulling back. I tend to buy in early (for price run up) and late Q4 (for new coin issues) but if something good comes along, i'm always game to buy a bit at a time. Some people buy based on the 200dma trend line but i'm more impulse buying. This year, very bullish on gold and silver tho.
2. Just checked UOB Malaysia's site and was quoted the following prices
1 OZ AUST NUGGETS Sell- 3859 (USD$1293) Buy-3774 (USD$1265)
Public Bank's equivalent of the same is Sell-3755.947, Buy-3610.399
Maybe it's just me but the spread for Public Bank's paper gold is huge. I'll stick with the physical item. On the plus side, RM10 is very cheap to maintain the PB gold account.. Much cheaper than UOB Singapore's.
3. I'm sure not all paper gold are derivatives of some larger instruments but most likely they are, esp the bigger ones. The bigger ETFs that are supposed to be backed by physical have had doubts cast over whether there is always that amount of physical sitting around in their vaults. Some have been audited to be true but i think there's been cases where conspiracists find faults..
4. Go for the more well known ones, US, Canadian and Australian in that order. Swiss bars can be a good alternative if they come sealed in their assay sleeves but not really my cup of tea. Buying is really strictly based on popularity, some people buy based on lower mintage counts on the assumption that there is some numismatic value although the lower mintage count ones will have a higher premium over spot.
5. Dunno leh. I don't have a safe deposit box in malaysia. Can't help you... _________________ Sleeping body... |
